Contemporary Chinese Poetry, Exile and the Potential of Modernism

Résumé

"Exile is strangely compelling to think about but terrible to experience," wrote Edward Said. Hiw words may be appropriated to describe the condition of several Chinese poets in exile. Here the focus is on the poet Duoduo/Duo Duo who was, in a sense, already in exile before he ever left his native soil.
