Health and Illness Representations at the Lyon's Institut Franco-Chinois (IFC, 1921-1946)
Résumé
Focusing on the individual and his response to its environment, illness is de facto located at a cross-point between the individual and society: a cross-point here cross-cultural, as illness confronts the representations of the Chinese students to that of the French administrators of the IFC. And, as a dysfunction of the “normal”, let emerge / is representative of some questions raised by this sino-french cultural confrontation.
Founded in 1921, the Institute hosted 473 students till 1946, from which 51 were women. As it’s a quite important number, this presentation focused on women students but it will be necessary to provide a comparatist study including men students, who were, of course, also ill/ sick.
