Professional Architects: Normative dispossession of an art trade is not inevitable
Résumé
The architecture has been considered for a long time as an artistic activity. But the profession of architects is now exposed to a hard competition with other companies in the construction industry. Artistic skills of architects do not protect themselves from this competition more with many actors in the construction market, in particular because they have no training in team management and control of the design and construction activities. Customer demands and design constraints have also increased, especially all the rules and performance standards.
This chapter deals with the central question: How to balance the "artistic essence" and the economic and social sustainability of architectural practices, in a normative environment which is more and more significant?
