This communication deals with Information Overload (IO) problem, within the discourse on ‘informing oneselve’ taking for example the Collective Intelligence Area in Small and Midium Sized companies. Information seeking and use behaviour is progressively evolving with the use of email and mega-database on internet. Method. Within a constructivist framework we propose one model and interviewed some competitive intelligence professionals, using a qualitative method that underlines the relationship between individual of collective information behaviour. Inside the “actor” paradigm and “information behaviour” we propose a theoretical and methodological framework in order to analyse information Overload. Analysis. This analysis can help us to improve information seeking and use behaviour of Competitive intelligence professionals and to develop the concept of refusing information. Results. Thus, this study demonstrates that the information overload within the professional context can help us to explain information specific practices. Conclusion. These findings have implications for developing new information systems and better understanding information seeking and use behaviour.
